My last DAZE in the Wynwood Walls
THE HONOR AND PRIVILEGE OF A LIFETIME
About 16 years ago at this very time, I got an email from Tony Goldman that said he was going to “make me an offer than I couldn’t refuse.” And just like that, I moved into this one-story, windowless, cinderblock warehouse in the middle of the “worst” neighborhood in Miami.
The first 9 artists (including Os Gemeos, Futura, Barry McGee, Retna, Kenny Scharf, and Shepard Fairey) were still working on murals on and around my building. and that project was known as the Wynwood Walls.
I loved this area when I first got here and I still love it today - just as I loved New York City 50 years ago, and still love it today. When I walked in here 16 years ago, I really had no idea what was to come. I hung up a few paintings, popped up a folding table, and called it home, thinking I might do a 6-month or 1-year pop-up in Miami.
Tony Goldman, however, had a very clear vision. He did not see what was there, he saw what was to come. And as it turns out, he was right about everything.
It has been the honor and privilege of a lifetime to be a pioneer and a part of Wynwood, and the Wynwood Walls. I have so much gratitude for that fateful day with Tony and Joey Goldman. Over time, I came to meet the rest of the Goldman family, and loved every one of them. I later became partners with Jessica Goldman for 10 years and together we created tons of gigantic public art projects all over the world, along with countless exhibitions in the Wynwood Walls.

Of all the things that happened here, and all the stories I can recount and recall along the way, what stands out above everything are the relationships and the people that have populated my world since I got here. Who would ever imagine I would be become great friends with over 100 street artists? My relationships with the artists, curators, installers, and maintenance men easily stand out above all the other experiences I’ve had here.
It has been a storied run.
Of the roughly 5,840 days I have been in my windowless cinderblock room, the energy in the air has been electric and palpable - filled with love, humanity, and creativity. I remember the first month I was here I said, “We should really make a documentary.” Truthfully, we could have made one that month, and every month for the last 16 years. It’s been so busy and so dynamic and indeed challenging to be here and bring this level of human energy to the world on a daily basis.

I thank God for my incredible team starting with Ashley Turchin, François, Bianca, Ethan, and many more without whom I couldn’t have built any of this. My bathtub of memories is wildly overflowing. Every day, every week, every month something incredible happens here. It has been a storied run - treasured times across the board - too many to count.
If you’re reading this, please comment on Instagram and tell us your best memory. I’d love to hear about it.
To be clear, I am not leaving Wynwood at all.
My workshop and warehouse is one block away, and I will continue to use Wynwood as my global headquarters, along with our incredible studio in Tribeca, New York City. Over 20 million visited the Wynwood Walls and the PTE during my time there. We’re now going to take the show on the road and hit at least 16 cities in the next 16 years… and then I’m going to take a week off!
I hope you’ve enjoyed the show. I’ve left it all in the ring.
I’m still in Miami.
I’m still in Wynwood.
The Wynwood Walls remains a sacred space.
And I will continue to rock on, and bring great energy everyday.
Stay tuned as more will be revealed.
It’s All Good!
With Love and Grattitude,
